The President of Russia, Vladimir Putin has declared war on rap music in his country following the increased influence of the genre on youth.
The no-nonsense President, is prepared to go all out against his new enemy. Putin says if the genre cannot be completely crushed, he wants it reigned in.
“if it is impossible to stop, then we must lead it and direct it.” He says.

Putin however understands that attempts to ban the music or artistes from performing would lead to increased popularity as he disclosed at a meeting with cultural leaders at St. Petersburg.
He identifies the basis of rap according to him “rap is based on three pillars: sex, drugs and protest.” But he is particularly concerned with drug themes prevalent in rap, saying “this is a path to the degradation of the nation.”
He said “drug propaganda” is worse than cursing.
The rap community however has sent out its champions in the persons of Husky, Fludd and other rap stars who have continued to rage against the machine with their lyrics and performances.
