Breaking: South-South governors ask CJN Onnoghen to disregard CCT summons

Five out of the six South-South Governors of Nigeria met had an emergency meeting in Abuja toady where they decided to ask embattled CJN, Onnoghen to disregard CCT summons.

The Chief of Justice, Onnoghen is charged with false asset declaration and is expected to be arraigned tomorrow. 

The Governors agreed that the move to prosecute the CJN is against the foundations of democracy and must be stopped at all costs. 

Rivers state Governor, Nyessom Wike, had already condemned the President for the act prior to the meeting.

The Governors then asked the CJN not to answer the summons when the trial opens at the tribunal on Monday morning.

The governors at the meeting were Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, who chaired it at his guest house in Maitama, Abuja, Nyesom Wike of Rivers, Ben Ayade of Cross River and Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom.

Delta state Governor was not present but this was apparently due to flight delays which the Governor made known to the council. 

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State was absent and did not disclose a representation. He is the only Governor amongst the six who is of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress. The rest are of the opposition party, People’s Democratic Party.
