BREAKING: man city beat Liverpool to first domestic silverware of the season.

Manchester City have lifted the Community Shield for the second year in a row with a penalty shootout victory over Liverpool .

The Premier League and FA Cup holders began their hopes of lifting the league title for a third season in a row with Claudio
Bravo the hero, after saving from Gini Wijnaldum, following a 1-1 draw.

Raheem Sterling opened the scoring in the first half but it came from a high quality training ground routine.

Kyle Walker floated a ball to the back post where Oleksander Zinchenko and David Silva both flicked on to allow Sterling to
nod in, via an Alisson fumble on the line.

The Reds came close to equalising through Virgil van Dijk and Mo Salah – the former crashing into the underside of the bar, before moments later the Egyptian pinged against the post.

Sterling should have notched a double against his former side as the game opened up, but on a three vs one he failed to convert.

But he was made to pay when Joel Matip rose highest from van Dijk’s loopy cross to level the score with 15 minutes to go.
