President of South Africa Ramaphosa tenders apology to Nigeria over xenophobic attacks

The President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, has tendered an apology to Nigeria over the xenophobic attacks that occurred in his country.

Jeff Radebe, South Africa’s special envoy, had proffered the apology personally to President Buhari behind closed doors at Aso villa, Abuja.

According to Radebe, President Ramaphosa said the issue of compensation to Nigerian victims would feature during Pres. Buhari’s visit to South Africa on October 3.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, last week in Lagos, received over 187 Nigerians trapped by xenophobic attacks in South Africa.

The returnees had landed, on the free Air Peace flight, in Lagos in an emotional state after escaping the violence in South Africa.

Mrs Dabiri had informed returnees that the government had made available to them N40,000 recharge card to enable them communicate with their family members. This prompted a recitation of the national anthem.
