One of Nigeria’s foremost reggae pioneers and legend Majekodunmi Fasheke, popularly known as Majek Fashek has passed away.

The news was broken by his manager, Omenka Uzoma Day, early this morning on the 2nd of June, 2020, via the artiste’s official instagram page.

According to him, he’d had to set the record straight after being bombarded with calls about the legend’s death.

He wrote:

Today been having pressure calls,well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker,
Let celebrate him ,his achievements and his family,what ever decisions made by his immediate family will be notify.

Fashek was a Nigerian singer-songwriter and guitarist born on February 1949 in Benin city, Edo state to an Edo mother and an Ijesha father.

He is most popular for his 1988 album Prisoner of Conscience, which included the multiple award-winning single “Send Down the Rain”. Also known as The Rainmaker.

The singer had run into health issues in the later stages of his career including battling a drug addiction. He had sought for help publicly some years ago which had celebrities clamoring to aid him.

Condolences have begun to pour in for the legend as it marks a sad day in the history of the country.
