The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has explained why it is not joining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in zoning its 2027 presidential ticket to the South.
The party said its main focus is on building strong structures across the country rather than deciding where its presidential candidate will come from.
Speaking on Monday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said that unlike the two leading parties, ADC has more work to do in setting up a solid base nationwide.
He stressed that discussions about zoning would only come at the right time, and when that happens, the party’s decision would be made open to Nigerians.
He dismissed reports that the ADC was promoting Northern interests, adding that the party would not be pressured by such claims.
According to him, the priority of the party is to present a candidate who can help secure victory and deliver on promises to Nigerians, not to follow the choices of other political parties.
Abdullahi further stated that competence and zoning are not opposing factors, pointing out that both can go together.
However, he maintained that zoning is not a matter the ADC is considering at the moment.
