Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has revealed that efforts are underway to build a coalition strong enough to remove President Bola Tinubu from office in the 2027 election.
He made this known while speaking at the Arewa Tech Fest in Katsina, a three-day event that brings together innovators, investors, and key players in the tech sector across northern Nigeria.
El-Rufai, who convened the tech festival, praised the performance of Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.
According to him, if the coalition succeeds in winning the 2027 election, Tijani will continue in his role due to what he described as commendable work in the ministry.
He arrived late at the event and explained that his delay was caused by a late-night political meeting held the previous day.
The meeting, he said, was crucial for discussions among political figures who are working together to ensure President Tinubu is voted out in the next general election.
He added that his late arrival was also due to the closure of Katsina airport, which does not operate at night.
El-Rufai has become a key player in the formation of a new political front against Tinubu.
His move to the opposition camp became more visible in March when reports indicated he had left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Although he is pushing for change, his alignment with the SDP has sparked mixed reactions.
Some voices within the party have distanced themselves from his plans, stating that he does not represent them.
