On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, the United States Department of State announced new visa rules that immediately affect Nigeria and 30 other African countries.

According to a statement issued by the US Embassy in Abuja, most non-immigrant and non-diplomatic visas granted to Nigerian citizens will now be valid for only three months and allow just a single entry into the US.

The new policy applies only to visas issued on or after July 8, 2025.

Those already issued before that date will remain valid as originally approved.

The US government did not explain why the change was made, but the immediate implementation means travellers from the listed countries will now face stricter travel terms.
