Among the victims abducted from St. Mary’s Primary and Secondary School in Niger State during a recent terrorist attack, 50 have escaped, according to the Christian Association of Nigeria.
Recall Dockaysworld reported that the terrorists had struck at Agwara LGA where the school is located and kidnapped pupils and teachers.
The attack had happened in the early hours of Friday, shooting a security guard and abducting more than 200 pupils and students, along with 13 staff members.
CAN Chairman in Niger State and proprietor of the school, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, initially said 215 students and 12 staff were taken.
By Saturday, he revealed that 88 more students could not be accounted for. But in a statement issued on Sunday by his aide, Daniel Atori, he confirmed that 50 pupils fled their captors on Saturday.
“As of Sunday, 23rd November 2025, we have received some good news as fifty (50) pupils escaped and have reunited with their parents,” the statement read.
Rev. Yohanna noted that the school runs boarding and day sessions. The primary section has 430 pupils, including 377 boarders and 53 day pupils.
He said 141 pupils were not taken during the raid. However, 236 pupils, three children of staff, 14 secondary school students and 12 staff remain in captivity.
