What I’ll Do To Yoruba People When I Become President – Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has promised that the Yoruba people will enjoy full inclusion in his government if he is elected president in 2027.
Atiku, who contested the 2023 presidential election under the Peoples Democratic Party, made this known on Wednesday while addressing concerns about possible ethnic bias in his leadership.
He dismissed fears that his Fulani background would influence his style of governance, stressing that the Yoruba would occupy a special place in his administration.
He pointed to his family ties as proof of his bond with the South-West, recalling that his first marriage in the 1970s was to Titi, an Ijesha-born Yoruba woman, with whom he has four children.
According to him, this personal connection shows his long-standing relationship with the Yoruba and explains why their interests will always matter to him.
The former vice president promised that if he wins in 2027, the South-West would play a central role in policymaking and governance.
He described himself as a detribalised Nigerian who has maintained friendships and alliances across different regions long before venturing into politics.
Atiku also spoke about his Yoruba family ties, saying that his children with Titi often call him “Baba Rere,” meaning good father.
He said the Yoruba have always been among his closest friends and political allies, and assured that they would remain central to his vision for Nigeria if he becomes president.
