Fresh details have emerged following the tragic death of Arise News anchor, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, popularly known as Sommie.
A close friend of the late journalist, identified on X as @rubylaren, has debunked rumors surrounding her passing. She was reacting to claims by another user, @CharlieCaker, who alleged that Sommie fell from a building.
Ruby, who described herself as a close friend, called the posts false and urged people not to spread misinformation.

“This thread is a lie. I beg you, don’t use my friend’s death to chase clout. Don’t do that. No police was called to take her to the hospital. She was shot and fell. Died immediately. Saying she was to get married in 2 months. Is it you that is the husband?. Please be quiet.”
“Please I know we are all emotional concerning Sommie’s death but if you don’t know what happened, be quiet! She died immediately she fell from the gunshot. She cracked her skull. Her neighbor was kind enough to take her to the hospital and morgue. Police where???”
“You people better tell that Charlie fella to take down his stupid thread.”
Recall Arise News confirmed her death, revealing that her estate was attacked by nearly 15 armed robbers. The assailants also killed a security guard during the invasion. Both victims were rushed to the hospital but died afterwards.
The news channel’s report also alleged that there was no immediate police response to distress calls during the incident, and that treatment at the hospital was delayed due to demands for identification.
However, @saniyusuf, a resident of the same estate where the incident occurred told another side of the story. He wrote:
”You guys need to stop peddling information that is untrue.
I personally paid for and filled her and barnabas’s form, and I brought her ID to the hospital. The hospital never delayed treating anyone.
Yeah, I have my personal gripe with them for how they handled the emergency. But stop spreading information that is not true.
Also, we must not forget Barnabas, our armed security officer, who tried to fight off the invaders but was shot in that attempt.
I personally drove him to the hospital to get treated. I watched him pass on right in front of me hours later as he lost too much blood.
He leaves behind a small family with one child.
Side note: Our hospital emergency staff and services are really not ready, man, but that’s for another day.”
Sommie, born on December 26, 1995, was also a British citizen but was known for her patriotism and efforts to contribute positively to Nigeria.
