Three newly elected lawmakers who emerged from the August 16, 2025, bye-elections have been sworn into office as members of the House of Representatives.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, on Tuesday administered the oath of office to three new legislators. Though 5 of them were scheduled to be inaugurated, only 3 were present.
They include Omosede Igbinedion representing Ovia South/Ovia West/Ovia North-East Federal Constituency of Edo State; Joseph Bagudu from Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency in Kaduna State; and Mukhtar Rabiu representing Garki/Babura Federal Constituency of Jigawa State.
Those absent include: Elegbeji Ayola of Sagamu/Ikenne/Remo North Federal Constituency, Ogun State, and Oyekunle Sunday of Ibadan North, Oyo State.
Recall that the bye-elections were held to replace members who either passed away or vacated their seats. Four lawmakers had died between 2024 and 2025, while Dennis Idahosa left the chamber after becoming the running mate of Senator Monday Okpebholo in the 2024 Edo governorship race.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had conducted the bye-elections in August. The All Progressives Congress (APC) secured four of the five available seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won one; the seat of Oyekunle Sunday from Oyo State.
