A dramatic scene unfolded at the National Assembly on Wednesday after the House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies ordered the arrest of officials from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) who stormed out of a meeting.
The confrontation began when JAMB’s representative, Mufutau Bello, who stood in for Registrar Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, demanded that journalists be sent out, saying the documents he intended to present contained sensitive details.
Lawmakers rejected the request, insisting that the session was a public proceeding conducted under constitutional authority.
The disagreement quickly escalated, prompting Bello to direct his delegation to leave the meeting in protest, a move that shocked members of the committee.
Angered by the walkout, the committee ordered the Sergeant-at-Arms to arrest the JAMB officials, though they had already left the National Assembly premises.
The committee has now summoned the Registrar to appear in person with his management team next Tuesday, warning that failure to comply could attract a warrant of arrest.
