Former millitary governor dies in Abuja


Former military governor of old Benue-Plateau State, General Abdullahi Mohammed, has died at the age of 86.

He passed away in his Abuja residence in the early hours of Wednesday.

General Mohammed, a native of Ilorin in Kwara State, served as the Military Governor between 1975 and 1976 during the administration of General Murtala Mohammed.

He later became the Director-General of the National Security Organization, which later transformed into the Department of State Services, from 1976 to 1979.

He also held the position of National Security Adviser to General Abdulsalami Abubakar from 1998 to 1999, where he played a role in the nation’s transition to democratic rule.

After his retirement from active military service, General Abdullahi Mohammed was appointed Chief of Staff to Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, serving from 1999 to 2008.
