Wike reacts after being blocked from Abuja land
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has reacted after naval officers led by Lt AM Yarima blocked him and senior FCTA officials from inspecting a disputed land in Gaduwa District, Abuja, on Tuesday.
The officers were reportedly acting on orders from retired Vice Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo, former Chief of Naval Staff, and prevented the minister from entering plot 1946, Buffer Transit Southern Park Way, where demolition of an alleged illegal development was planned.
The military reportedly used a truck to block bulldozers and confronted Wike physically, forcing him to turn back despite attempts to access the site with his security aides.
The minister said the land owner had no legal documents or approvals to justify any development and condemned the use of military influence to intimidate government officials.
Wike stressed that no one, regardless of former rank or position, is above the law and reaffirmed that FCTA officials would enforce urban regulations in Gaduwa.
He described the incident as an attempt to seize land illegally through intimidation.
The minister said he had contacted the Chief of Defence Staff and the Chief of Naval Staff, who assured him that the issue would be resolved without violence.
Wike confirmed that enforcement of land laws would continue, and illegal developments would not be allowed to proceed, regardless of the individuals involved.
