Ahmad Yerima: I didn’t call him a fool, only called out illegal order – Wike says after backlash

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has defended his recent exchange with Lt. A.M. Yarima of the Nigerian Navy, insisting he did not insult the officer during the heated land dispute at Gaduwa, Abuja.

Speaking at a press conference, Wike said he has deep respect for the military and that his words were aimed at condemning what he described as an illegal order the officer was following, not at labeling the officer a fool.

The minister added that reactions to the video circulating online have misrepresented the incident and called on detractors to avoid twisting his statements.

He emphasized that his focus remains on enforcing the law and protecting the integrity of FCTA-administered land.

Wike maintained that the plot in question remains a designated buffer and that the confrontation was a necessary step to prevent illegal encroachment, while urging Nigerians to separate the enforcement of rules from personal attacks on military personnel.
