The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing a sharp leadership clash as the faction loyal to Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, took control of the party’s national secretariat on Tuesday morning, Dockaysworld reports.
Led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, the Wike faction entered the secretariat at 9:35 a.m., asserting authority ahead of planned Board of Trustees (BoT) and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings.
The group is set to install Abdulrahman Mohammed as the party’s new national chairman.
Heavy police personnel accompanied them, securing entry points and key areas around the building.
The move effectively locked out the rival faction aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.
Makinde’s group, which elected Kabiru Turaki as National Chairman during the last convention in Ibadan, had requested police protection to hold their National Working Committee (NWC) meeting but could not access the secretariat.
Turaki, speaking to journalists after meeting with FCT Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye, said his faction is prepared to defend the party, describing the situation as critical for PDP’s unity.
As of Tuesday morning, no member of the Turaki-led NWC had entered the secretariat.
