Nigerian singer Spyro has condemned the abduction of 25 female students in Kebbi State, expressing shock that the nation appears more focused on online drama than the kidnapping of schoolchildren.
The singer seemed to be referring to the Verydarkman and Mr Jollof fight which happened onboard an airplane and dominated the news cycle.
Reacting on social media, he wrote: “25 young girls have been kidnapped in their school in a state and yet there is more conversation about ‘A FIGHT’ than the abduction of 25 teenagers… Who has bewitched us as a nation?”
Spyro urged Nigerians to stop getting distracted and speak up collectively, warning that insecurity will eventually affect everyone.
“The day we wake up is the day we get freedom… Can we please set aside distractions at this moment and speak for justice #FREEOURGIRLS,” he added.
The kidnapping took place in the early hours of Monday when armed bandits invaded Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School, Maga, in Danko/Wasagu LGA.
The attackers killed Vice Principal Malam Hassan Makuku, who was reportedly shot while trying to protect students.
Residents said the bandits operated freely without security resistance, firing shots and spreading panic across the community.
Witnesses described the attack as part of a series of recent assaults that have left Maga on edge.
Locals also reported discovering multiple unidentified bodies around the school after the invasion, deepening fears in the area.
Meanwhile the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-General Waidi Shaibu, has ordered troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA to resolve the matter as soon as possible.
Spyro said the tragedy “breaks my heart to see how distracted we are as a people,” calling on Nigerians to unite in demanding justice for the abducted students.
