Kebbi schoolgirls: Tinubu issues directive to VP Shettima

President Bola Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State following the abduction of 25 schoolgirls from a boarding school in Maga, Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area.

The attack, carried out by armed bandits early Monday morning, also left one staff member dead and another injured.

The incident reportedly happened around 4:00 a.m. when the assailants engaged police officers in a gunfight before scaling the school’s fence and taking the students from their hostel.

The Kebbi State Police confirmed that Hassan Makuku was killed, while Ali Shehu was injured.

Security forces, including additional police units, military personnel, and vigilante groups, were deployed to respond to the crisis.

President Tinubu expressed deep sadness over the abduction and also mourned the recent deaths of soldiers, including Brigadier General Musa Uba, who were killed fighting insurgents in Borno State.

He criticized the security breach that allowed the attack to happen despite intelligence warnings, while acknowledging the efforts of Governor Mohammed Nasir Idris to prevent such incidents.

The President urged citizens to cooperate with security agencies by providing information that could prevent attacks, stressing that community support is crucial for protecting schools and communities.

The Vice President’s visit aims to console affected families, support the state government, and reassure Nigerians of the federal government’s commitment to securing the release of the abducted girls.
