The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors NARD, has suspended its indefinite strike 29 days after it began.
According to Premium Times, NARD President Muhammad Suleiman confirmed the decision on Saturday, saying, “The strike has now been suspended for four weeks, we will share more details later.”
The doctors, embarked on an indefinite strike on 1 November, had accused the federal government of neglecting issues such as unpaid salary arrears, poor working conditions and delayed promotions.
They also criticised manpower shortages, saying, “The current unsustainable practice of spanning duties across several days poses serious risks to physicians’ well-being and patient safety.”
Their demands include payment of outstanding arrears, replacement of exiting doctors, better hospital infrastructure and inclusion of house officers in the civil service scheme.
NARD’s action comes after a similar one in the education sector by Academic Staff Union of Universities who’ve also suspended the strike for not deliberations.
