Tinubu downgrades role of popular minister, re-assigns key roles to another minister
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a major reshuffle in the responsibilities of his finance team, moving several important duties from the Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, to the Minister of State for Finance, Dr. Doris Uzoka-Anite.
Under the new arrangement, Uzoka-Anite will now oversee critical aspects of Nigeria’s domestic finances.
Her expanded role includes handling revenue collection and distribution, managing all domestic debt, and overseeing home finance operations.
She will also take charge of technical services, cash management, and the sharing of revenue among the different levels of government and the Federation Account.
Additionally, the supervision of the Nigerian Customs Service and development finance functions will now fall under her office.
Some reports alleged that there were speculations that President Tinubu considered removing Edun, but later changed his mind.
Sources say Edun may step down in 2026, citing health reasons and the need to maintain his reputation, while Uzoka-Anite continues to take on the key finance responsibilities.
