Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has explained why he has no plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite the wave of defections by some opposition governors.
Makinde, who visited the State House, Abuja on Thursday, to meet with President Bola Tinubu, spoke to journalists on the development.
When queried about the defection of numerous PDP governors to the APC, he stated that he was comfortable with his party.
He added that it was important to employ a bipartisan approach in the country, noting that collaboration across party lines was sometimes necessary to address certain national issues.
President Tinubu held separate meetings with Makinde and Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, at the Presidential Villa.
The two governors arrived at the State House separately at about 3:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m., with Mutfwang arriving first.
The meetings come against the backdrop of ongoing political realignments, as key stakeholders commence strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Makinde, a member of the PDP, remains one of the few governors of the party still standing with the opposition amid a wave of defections to the ruling APC.
He is widely believed to be nursing a presidential ambition and positioning himself for the PDP’s 2027 presidential ticket.
