Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has described President Bola Tinubu as a minor figure in Nigeria’s political history, insisting he should not be compared with past leaders such as Sir Ahmadu Bello and Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Dalung made the remarks during an interview on Politics Today on Channels Television.
In the interview seen by Dockaysworld, the former minister said Tinubu’s political stature does not measure up to that of Nigeria’s historical political icons.
He described them as far more influential in shaping the country’s political foundation.
He argued that President Tinubu’s administration has been marked by persistent poverty, hunger, and other socio-economic challenges.
He argued that this meant his political prowess was irrelevant as he could not solve the problems of the people.
Dalung stated that several individuals were willing and capable of challenging Tinubu in 2027, adding that he could also decide to contest against the president.
He said the opposition was familiar with the strategies of the All Progressives Congress and would not be caught off guard by the ruling party’s approach ahead of the next election.
The former minister further said that the choice of who would challenge Tinubu would be determined by members of the African Democratic Congress through a transparent primary process.
According to him, whoever emerges from the party’s primaries would go on to challenge President Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
