Popular Kano market engulfed in fire

A major fire outbreak has ravaged parts of Singer Market in Kano, destroying goods worth millions of naira.

The blaze reportedly started at Gidan Gilas, also known as Gidan Mai, from a provisions shop before spreading to nearby buildings.

Thick black smoke filled the sky as traders and residents rushed to salvage their goods and stop the flames from reaching adjoining structures.

According to Blueprint, officials of the Kano State Fire Service responded with a fire truck, but it reportedly ran out of water while battling the inferno.

A second truck later arrived, while a private tanker from Aspira Nigeria Limited joined efforts to contain the blaze.

Despite the interventions, traders called for more water supply, expressing fears of further destruction.

The cause of the fire had yet to be determined at the time of filing this report.

The incident comes weeks after another devastating fire at the same market compounded losses for business owners, with authorities yet to issue an official statement.
