Council Elections: Wike restricts movement in FCT

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared Friday, February 20, 2026, a work-free day and imposed movement restrictions across the FCT ahead of the February 21 Area Council elections.

In a broadcast on Thursday, Wike said movement would be restricted from 8:00 p.m. on Friday to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday to allow residents travel to their communities and participate in the election of chairmen and councillors in the six area councils.

He said the decision, approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly exercise.

The minister urged residents to turn out in large numbers and conduct themselves responsibly.
