ICPC remands El-Rufai in custody after mother’s burial

Malam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, has been returned to the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

El-Rufai had been released on March 27, 2026, following the death of his mother. He was re-arraigned on Tuesday in connection with a separate charge filed against him by the ICPC.

His initial application for bail, previously adjourned to March 31, 2026, was yet to be heard. On Tuesday, he first appeared at the Kaduna State High Court, but the absence of the second defendant stalled proceedings, which were then adjourned to April 10, 2026.

Afterward, El-Rufai was taken to the Federal High Court, Kaduna, where his bail application is scheduled to be heard.
