A defining milestone has been reached by Favour Abatang, as her initiative, Her Voice Foundation, now impacts over 60 communities across Nigeria. This achievement is not just a measure of growth, but a reflection of years of intentional advocacy, grassroots engagement, and life-changing interventions focused on supporting teenage mothers and vulnerable girls.
Across these communities, the foundation has continued to provide access to education, mentorship, and reintegration opportunities for girls whose futures were once uncertain. Yet, behind this growing impact lies a deeply personal story that shaped the vision from the very beginning.
Favour Abatang’s journey into advocacy is rooted in her early life experience. At the age of 10, she lost her mother, a moment that would profoundly shape her worldview and sense of responsibility. Growing up without maternal support exposed her to emotional and social challenges that many young girls face in silence.
This experience became a defining force in her life. It instilled in her a deep sense of empathy for vulnerable girls, particularly those navigating hardship without guidance or support. Over time, this empathy evolved into a mission, one that would later transform into a structured platform for impact.
What is now known as Her Voice Foundation did not begin as a full-scale organisation. It started as a smaller initiative called Campus Babe, a platform initially created to engage and support young women within academic environments.
As Abatang’s exposure to broader societal challenges increased, particularly issues surrounding teenage pregnancy, school dropouts, and social exclusion, the vision expanded. She rebranded and restructured the initiative into Her Voice Foundation, aligning it with a more defined mission: to amplify the voices of girls, restore their dignity, and provide access to education and opportunity.
This transition marked a turning point, moving from a campus-focused initiative to a community-driven organisation with national reach.
In October 2020, Abatang gained national recognition as the 3rd Prize Winner at the South-South Technovation Hackathon Challenge organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency at the University of Calabar.
This achievement highlighted her problem-solving ability and innovative thinking, qualities that would later define her approach to social impact work.
Between 2021 and 2022, she focused on grassroots engagement, working closely with communities to understand the realities faced by teenage mothers and at-risk girls. These experiences shaped the programmes of Her Voice Foundation, ensuring that they were practical, relevant, and impactful.
It was during this period that the foundation began expanding its reach, gradually establishing itself as a trusted platform for support and advocacy.
The year 2023 marked a significant leap in her journey. In May, she participated in professional development programmes at the Stellenbosch Business Institute, where she completed training in Design Thinking and Innovative Leadership. These experiences strengthened her strategic approach to leadership and programme development.
That same year, she received the Girl Child Education Champion Award in South Africa, presented by Mariya Didi. The recognition underscored her growing influence and the tangible impact of her work across communities.
Beyond her work on the ground, Abatang has become a sought-after voice in conversations around girls’ education, youth empowerment, and gender equality. She has participated in speaking engagements, conferences, and advocacy platforms where she shares insights from her work and highlights the urgent need to support vulnerable girls.
Her voice continues to resonate across different audiences, from grassroots communities to international forums, reinforcing her role as both a practitioner and a thought leader in the social impact space.
As her organisation expanded, Abatang invested in building her leadership capacity. She attended the Lagos Business School, earning a certificate in Non Profit Leadership and Management, supported by the Ford Foundation and the Lagos Business School Sustainability Centre.
This experience equipped her with the tools needed to scale Her Voice Foundation sustainably and strengthen its operational framework.
By 2025, her work had earned global recognition as she became a One Young World Ambassador. This role connected her with a global network of young leaders and further amplified her advocacy on an international stage.
Today, with over 60 communities reached, Favour Abatang’s work continues to expand in both scale and depth. Her journey, shaped by personal loss, resilience, and a clear sense of purpose, stands as a powerful example of how lived experiences can inspire meaningful change.
Through Her Voice Foundation, she is not only addressing immediate challenges but also building long-term solutions that give girls a second chance at education and a stronger future.
As her impact grows, one thing remains clear: her story is not just about where she started, but about the countless lives being transformed along the way.
