Hassan Muhammad Danjuma, the lawmaker representing Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in Kano State, has died.
He reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, with the development confirmed through a statement by a media aide to former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Danjuma, who entered the House of Representatives in 2023 as a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party, had recently switched allegiance to the African Democratic Congress, ADC, while maintaining close political ties with Kwankwaso.
His death came just days after he was seen at a political gathering in Abuja, where discussions reportedly centered on preparations for the ADC’s upcoming state congress. Sources described his passing as unexpected, noting he showed no signs of illness at the time.
Politically, he was part of a group of Kano lawmakers who chose not to follow Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to the All Progressives Congress, instead remaining within the opposition bloc.
The development marks another loss within Kano’s political landscape. Late last year, two state lawmakers, Aminu Sa’adu and Sarki Aliyu, died within a short interval of each other.
The circumstances surrounding Danjuma’s death remain unclear, as tributes continue to emerge from colleagues and constituents.
