Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the exit of Peter Obi from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Obi’s decision is linked to internal disagreements within the ADC, ongoing leadership struggles, and efforts to build a stronger and more stable opposition structure ahead of 2027.
Reacting to the development, Atiku through his media aide, Paul Ibe, maintained that the coalition structure remains active and will continue to attract new participants despite the departure of some key figures like Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He explained that while they have chosen to leave at what they consider their preferred stage, the broader coalition effort is still progressing.
Ibe also stated that the coalition movement is ongoing and continues to gain support from new stakeholders along the way. He wished them well in their future political decisions.
He further noted that the current focus of the coalition leadership is on working with other members of the ADC to ensure that preparations for the party’s primary election timetable are completed within a short period.
He told Daily Trust: “Sadly, some persons have gotten off at what they perceived to be their station.
“The train keeps moving and picking [up] more passengers along its way. We wish them well. Presently, our preoccupation is working with other stakeholders of the ADC in successfully delivering on the party’s primary election timetable within a short period of time.”
