APC Governors Reportedly Sack Uzodinma As Chairman
Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, has been reportedly removed from his position after an emergency meeting involving several governors.
According to ThisDay, about 20 governors were said to have attended the meeting held at the Ogun State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja, while some others reportedly joined virtually.
The meeting allegedly took place shortly after President Bola Tinubu submitted his presidential nomination forms.
Sources told ThisDay that members of the forum decided to remove Uzodimma over allegations connected to financial mismanagement, complaints about his leadership style, and growing loss of confidence among some governors.
It was also alleged that attempts by the Imo governor to respond to the accusations did not satisfy several members of the forum.
Discussions has already begun within the forum on who could replace him, with Governor Peter Mbah being mentioned as a possible successor.
There were also claims that the development had been communicated to President Tinubu shortly after the decision was allegedly taken.
Some sources alleged that confidence in Uzodimma’s leadership within the forum had weakened.
However, the Progressive Governors’ Forum quickly denied the reports and described them as false.
In a statement released by the Director General of the forum, Folorunso S. Aluko, the secretariat said no meeting was held where such a decision was taken and maintained that Uzodimma remains the chairman of the group.
The statement said the forum had no record of any resolution removing the Imo governor and insisted that the reports spreading across some media platforms were untrue.
The forum also stated that its members remain united and focused on their responsibilities, while urging the public, party supporters and the media to ignore the claims surrounding Uzodimma’s alleged removal.
