The NDC presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, Peter Obi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, citing what he described as worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and failure to deliver on key campaign promises.
In a statement via his official X page on Monday, Obi said he was reflecting on the recent resignation announcement by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which he described as an example of political accountability.
Obi recalled that before becoming president, Tinubu had called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to resign over insecurity and economic challenges, particularly following the Chibok schoolgirls’ abduction.
He argued that Tinubu’s promises on electricity, security, anti-corruption, and improved welfare had not been met, saying conditions in the country had deteriorated.
“Electricity supply remains unreliable, insecurity has intensified in many areas, including kidnappings, and economic hardship has deepened rather than eased,” Obi said.
“I join Nigerians of goodwill in calling for the resignation of the President over monumental failure in governance,” he added.
Obi said such a move would help promote accountability in public office and reinforce the principle that leadership failures should have consequences.
