The senator representing Kebbi South Senatorial District, Garba Musa Maidoki, has dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Maidoki announced his defection on Tuesday through a letter addressed to the Senate, which was read during plenary.
The lawmaker said his decision was driven by lingering internal disagreements within the APC, especially in Kebbi State.
According to him, recent events in the party, including the conduct of its primary elections in the state, convinced him that it was time to move to another political platform.
He explained that the situation within the ruling party no longer reflected the values it claims to uphold and that developments in Kebbi State played a major role in his decision to leave.
Maidoki said he believes the ADC offers a better environment for him to pursue his political goals and serve the people of Kebbi South more effectively.
He added that the party’s direction and leadership are closer to his vision of representation and public service.
During the session, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the plenary, appealed to the senator to reconsider his decision.
Barau maintained that there was no crisis within the APC in Kebbi State and suggested that any misunderstanding could still be resolved through dialogue.
The Deputy Senate President indicated his willingness to mediate and help reconcile the differences.
However, some lawmakers raised concerns over parliamentary procedure, prompting him to step back from further discussion on the matter.
Following the objections, Barau acknowledged the concerns and allowed the process to continue without making additional remarks.
