NNPCL raises petrol price

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has increased the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, at its retail stations in Abuja and surrounding areas.

A market check conducted on Tuesday showed that NNPCL filling stations were selling petrol at N1,270 per litre, compared with the previous price of N1,250 per litre.

The latest adjustment represents an increase of N20 per litre for motorists and other petrol users.

The new price comes at a time when the Dangote Refinery has expanded its free petrol delivery programme to more locations across the country.

Abuja is among the destinations covered by the initiative, with petrol supplied at N1,185 per litre under the arrangement.

The price movement has also affected other major fuel stations in the Federal Capital Territory.

MRS filling stations recently increased their petrol price by N20, taking it to N1,230 per litre.

With the latest adjustment by NNPCL, its petrol is now more expensive than the product sold at several other filling stations in Abuja and nearby areas.

Stations operated by MRS, Geregu, Ranoil, Emedab and Mobil were among those selling below the new NNPCL price.

However, some independent filling stations continued to sell petrol at prices above NNPCL’s latest rate.

Empire and AA Rano, for instance, were selling the product for prices ranging from N1,275 to N1,299 per litre.

The different pump prices mean motorists in Abuja and its environs are currently paying between N1,230 and N1,299 for a litre of petrol, depending on the filling station they patronise.
