House of Assembly suspends LG chairman
The Jigawa State House of Assembly has suspended the Chairman of Buji Local Government Area, Najibullahi Falalu Tukur, over allegations of gross misconduct and mismanagement of public funds.
The suspension was approved during a plenary session after lawmakers considered and adopted the recommendations of the House Committee on Local Government.
The committee’s report was presented to the Assembly by its Vice-Chairman, Sani Sale Zaburan, following an investigation into the allegations against the council chairman.
The committee said the suspension was in line with the provisions of Section 36, Subsections 2 and 3 of the Jigawa State Local Government Establishment Law, 2024.
Following the adoption of the report, the Speaker of the Assembly, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, announced the immediate suspension of Tukur from office.
The Speaker also ordered the suspended chairman to surrender all government property in his possession to the Vice-Chairman of the Buji Local Government Council.
The Assembly also set up an ad hoc committee to conduct a detailed investigation into the allegations of misconduct and alleged diversion or misuse of public funds against the chairman.
The committee will be headed by Usman Abdullahi Tura Musari, who represents Guri Constituency in the state legislature.
Other members of the investigative committee were drawn from the constituencies representing Maigatari, Malam Madori, Birnin Kudu, Yankwashi, Kafin Hausa and Sule Tankarkar.
The lawmakers are expected to review the outcome of the investigation after the committee completes its assignment.
