Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly arrested former Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha at a hotel in Abuja over allegations of criminal conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
According to The Sun, the former governor was arrested on Monday night, October 12, 2026, at the REIZ Continental Hotel in central Abuja.
The arrest followed an ongoing police investigation into allegations involving the former governor and disputed documents linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial primary election in Imo State.
The development comes days after a Senior Magistrate Court in Abuja had issued a bench warrant for Okorocha’s arrest alongside former Senator Ifeanyi Araraume, Timothy Ama Chuks and Amen Okorocha.
The four individuals were accused of criminal conspiracy, forgery and presenting false documents allegedly claiming that Okorocha won the APC senatorial primary for Imo West, also known as Orlu Zone.
According to reports, the police moved to arrest Okorocha after he allegedly failed to honour repeated invitations in connection with the investigation.
The former governor was initially invited to appear at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on September 2, 2026. However, the appointment was reportedly rescheduled to September 8 following a request by his lawyers.
Okorocha allegedly failed to attend on the rescheduled date, leading to further steps by the police to secure his appearance in connection with the case.
The arrest also followed a dispute over the APC senatorial primary results in Imo State, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) maintaining that Governor Hope Uzodimma emerged as the winner of the party’s primary election for the Imo West Senatorial District.
INEC had reportedly asked the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate a document allegedly circulated by Okorocha that presented him as the winner of the primary.
The commission maintained that the results officially submitted to it by the APC identified Uzodimma as the winner and the party’s candidate for the senatorial district.
Okorocha, however, had previously denied reports that a court ordered his arrest, describing the claims as false and challenging those behind the reports to produce the alleged warrant.
