State Governor Sacks All Commissioners

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has sacked commissioners and other members of his cabinet following the dissolution of the State Executive Council ahead of his second-term inauguration on Friday, October 16, 2026.

The governor also approved the immediate disengagement of all directors-general of government agencies and technical advisers.

The development was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode.

The affected directors-general and technical advisers have been directed to submit their handover notes to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government.

According to the statement, the latest decision completes the disengagement process for political appointees serving in the outgoing administration, except for a few officials whose appointments have been retained because of the nature of their assignments.

Oyebanji appreciated the affected officials for their contributions to his administration and the development of Ekiti State. He also wished them success in their future endeavours.

The sacking of the commissioners followed the governor’s decision on Monday to dissolve the State Executive Council during a valedictory session with cabinet members at the Executive Council Chamber in the Governor’s Office in Ado-Ekiti.

However, the dissolution did not affect the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Habibat Adubiaro, the Chief of Staff, Niyi Adebayo, and the Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, whose appointments were retained.

At the valedictory session, the outgoing commissioners and special advisers thanked the governor for the opportunity to serve in his administration. They also reflected on their experiences in government and commended his leadership.

The cabinet members pledged to continue contributing to the development of Ekiti State in other capacities after leaving office.

Oyebanji was first inaugurated as governor of Ekiti State on October 16, 2022. Following his re-election on June 20, 2026, he is scheduled to begin his second term on Friday, October 16, at the Ekiti Parapo Pavilion in Ado-Ekiti.
