An Abuja High Court has ordered rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, to pay N125,000 after his lawyer requested more time to prepare for the next stage of an assault case against him.
Justice J.O.E. Adeyemi-Ajayi imposed the cost on Wednesday after the defence sought an adjournment, despite the claimant’s counsel opposing the request.
The suit was filed by Ogbogiri Okey Levi, known as Kraziecent, who accused the rapper of assault and battery.
When proceedings resumed, the claimant’s lawyer, Uchenna Ojembe, informed the court that his witness was present and ready to testify during cross-examination and defence.
However, Odumodublvck’s counsel, Ikenna Magnus, asked the court to grant another date, explaining that he had only recently taken over the case and needed additional time to prepare.
Ojembe opposed the request, accusing the defence of using repeated adjournments to delay the proceedings. He told the court that although he would not seek to have the defence barred from continuing, he would ask for N5 million in costs.
Magnus subsequently appealed to the court for leniency.
In her ruling, Justice Adeyemi-Ajayi awarded N125,000 against the rapper over the delay and adjourned the case until October 27 for cross-examination and the defence.
