UK Warns Against All Travel
The United Kingdom has advised its citizens against all travel to Sokoto State and several other parts of Nigeria over security concerns, while designating additional states for essential travel only.
The UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) issued the travel advisory, identifying states across the North-East and North-West regions where it considers travel unsafe.
In the North-East, the FCDO advised against all travel to Borno, Yobe, Adamawa and Gombe states. Bauchi State was classified as a destination for essential travel only.
In the North-West, the UK government warned against all travel to Katsina, Zamfara and Sokoto states.
Kaduna, Kano, Kebbi and Jigawa states were among those designated for essential travel only. The same classification applied to Niger, Kogi, Plateau, Taraba, Benue and Kwara states.
The advisory also covered parts of the South-South region, where UK citizens were warned against travelling to riverine areas of Rivers, Delta and Cross River states that can only be reached by boat.
Meanwhile, non-riverine areas of Rivers, Delta and Cross River states were classified for essential travel only. The same guidance applied to Abia, Anambra and Imo states in the South-East.
The advisory sets out different levels of travel restrictions across the country, urging UK citizens to consider the security risks before making travel arrangements to affected areas.
