Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, a respected Yoruba elder statesman and leader of the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has died at the age of 100.
Fasoranti’s death was announced on Tuesday by Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in a condolence message released on behalf of the state government in Akure.
The governor described the late Afenifere leader as a respected father figure whose life was defined by wisdom, honesty and dedication to public service.
Aiyedatiwa noted that Fasoranti devoted much of his life to serving Ondo State, the Yoruba people and Nigeria, adding that his contributions to the development of the country would be remembered for years to come.
He also acknowledged the elder statesman’s role in public affairs, particularly his commitment to justice, accountability and good governance.
According to the governor, Fasoranti was known for offering guidance on important national issues and maintaining firm positions on matters affecting the welfare of the people.
Aiyedatiwa said the late leader had left behind a lasting legacy of integrity, honour and service that would continue to guide and inspire younger generations.
The governor extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom and residents of Ondo State over the loss of the prominent Yoruba leader.
He expressed sympathy with those mourning the elder statesman, describing his death as a painful loss to the state and the Yoruba community.
Aiyedatiwa also prayed for the peaceful repose of Fasoranti’s soul and asked God to grant his family, associates and the people affected by his death the strength to bear the loss.
Fasoranti was widely recognised for his role in Afenifere, an organisation that advocates for the interests of the Yoruba people and promotes discussions on Nigeria’s political direction, governance and national development.
