Former Minister of Information and immediate past President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief John Nwodo Jnr., has rejected his appointment as a member of the Advisory Council to Governor Peter Mbah’s Gubernatorial Campaign Council in Enugu State.
Nwodo made his position known in a letter dated October 28, 2026, addressed to Governor Mbah.
The former minister explained that he only discovered his inclusion in the campaign council through a media announcement after returning from a trip to the United States, where he had visited his children.
While appreciating the governor for considering him worthy of the appointment, Nwodo said he would not accept the position, citing his commitment to political neutrality.
He explained that during his tenure as President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, he pledged to remain nonpartisan and believes he must continue to uphold the principle even after leaving office.
Nwodo stated that he considers himself a father to all and does not wish to take sides in local politics across Igboland.
He also clarified that his decision was not directed at Governor Mbah or his administration, stressing that he was not a member of any political party and had no intention of joining one for the rest of his life.
According to him, remaining politically neutral would allow him to play a fatherly role in settling disagreements among politicians and promoting peace within the political space.
The former Ohanaeze leader further stated that he remained willing to offer advice to politicians across Enugu State and encourage them to embrace unity and peaceful coexistence.
He consequently asked Governor Mbah to direct his aides to remove his name from all campaign-related publications and announcements, including the list of members of the campaign council.
