The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Thursday raided the headquarters of the Dangote Group in Lagos.

The raid is part of an ongoing investigation into forex allocations in Nigeria.

EFCC operatives requested and checked documents related to the allocation of foreign exchange to the Dangote Group over the past ten years, and took some documents with them.

The EFCC had previously directed 52 companies, including Dangote Group, to provide documents supporting their foreign currency allocations and utilization over the last decade.

The investigation is focused on alleged preferential forex allocations by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) under Godwin Emefiele’s leadership, accusing the CBN of favoritism and non-transparent practices.

A previous forensic audit of the CBN reportedly uncovered unauthorized deposits of Nigerian funds in foreign bank accounts, manipulation of the naira exchange rate, and fraud related to the e-Naira project.

While some companies complied with EFCC’s requests, others sought additional time to gather information and documents.
