Rivers Administrator Ibas appoints Wike’s ally

Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ebok-Ete Ekwe Ibas (Rtd) has appointed Dr. Samuel Nwanosike as the new head of the Rivers State Waste Management Agency (RIWAMA).

The announcement, made by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibibia Worika, said the appointment became official on April 11, 2025.

Nwanosike, who previously served as the chairman of the Ikwerre Local Government Area, is closely associated with Nyesom Wike, the former governor of the state and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

His new role at the agency has stirred debate among political observers, especially as Rivers State continues to face political uncertainty.

Many see this development as one that could shape public perception about the Sole Administrator’s role in managing the ongoing political tension.

Though no official reason was given for choosing Nwanosike, people familiar with state politics believe the appointment might influence how the public sees the administration’s stance on neutrality.

As the new boss of RIWAMA, Nwanosike is expected to take charge of managing waste-related issues across the state.

However, with his strong political background and alliance with a key national figure, there is growing public interest in how his leadership will affect both the agency’s performance and the political atmosphere in Rivers.
