Constituents set to recall federal lawmaker

Some constituents in Delta Central have begun a process to recall their Senator, Ede Dafinone, who was elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023.

The group pushing for the recall, Nigeria Polling Units Chairmen Forum (NPUCF), said the senator’s performance has been unsatisfactory and they want him to step down or be removed through recall.

They have begun collecting signatures from eligible voters in the senatorial district to support their cause.

The NPUCF leader, Nicholas Evwienure stated that the Urhobo people, the dominant ethnic group in the area, have only one senator, and they expect a representative who speaks strongly for them.

According to them, representing the people requires dedication and commitment, which they believe is missing in Dafinone’s work.

Evwienure, who spoke at a press briefing in Asaba, said the group is also demanding Dafinone’s resignation.

“We, the eligible registered voters across party lines of Delta central’s electoral district, are appealing to the senator representing Delta central, Ede Dafinone, to resign honourably or face recall,” he said.

Abel John-Gold, one of the constituents, expressed support for the process.

“Ede is sleeping in the senate, Ede has failed us, I strongly support the recall of Senator Ede Dafinone,” John-Gold told News Central TV.

“He has failed in every ramification. He even forgot those who worked for him, he forgot those who campaigned for him. He forgot all his supporters.”
