Real Cause Of 2025 UTME Poor Results Finally Emerges

The House of Representatives Committee on Basic Education and Examination Bodies has determined that the low scores recorded in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) were due to human error, not technical issues as previously claimed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

On May 9, JAMB released the UTME results, revealing that over 78% of candidates scored below 200 out of a possible 400 points.

Following this, the House resolved on May 15 to investigate the examination body’s claim of a technical glitch.

Addressing journalists at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Committee Chairman Oboku Oforji stated that preliminary findings indicate the errors were human-induced.

He commended JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, for accepting responsibility and apologizing to the public.

Oforji stated that the errors were avoidable and resulted from negligence. Despite this, he acknowledged JAMB’s consistent processes in registration and result dissemination.

The Committee has called for an independent investigation and proposed reforms to prevent future occurrences.
