Senators Olubiyi Fadeyi and Francis Fadahunsi have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dockaysworld reports.
The two lawmakers, who represent Osun Central and Osun East respectively, cited unresolved internal conflicts and prolonged court battles as reasons for their departure.
Senator Fadeyi’s resignation was contained in a letter dated July 12, 2025, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 3, Oke Ejigbo, Ila Orangun.
He wrote: “I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. Irreconcilable differences and irreparable division that have emerged and court cases and counter court cases in the last 3 years, which have created factions in the party at the national level.”
He added that the decision followed consultations with his political associates and family members, stressing that the party’s internal problems had weakened its focus and direction.
Hours later, Senator Francis Fadahunsi also announced his resignation. In a letter dated June 12, 2025, and addressed to his ward chairman, Fadahunsi stated:
“I wish to formally notify you that I am resigning my membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect, due to the irreparable, irreconcilable differences and protracted legal battles that have bedevilled the party at the national level after the 2023 general elections.”
The senator, who is serving his second term, said the decision was made after wide consultation with his political allies, family, and friends.
“It is my wish that you accept my resignation in good faith,” he added.
Their resignations come at a time when speculation about major defections in the state is high, following a prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP.
It is understood that the state governor, Ademola Adeleke, is considering a switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC). He is facing increased scrutiny over his loyalty to the PDP.
Earlier this month, Adeleke held a closed-door meeting with PDP stakeholders in the state, including the Deputy Governor, Prince Kola Adewusi; Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Lere Oyewumi; and members of the House of Representatives such as Hon. Bamidele Sallam, Hon. Clement Olohunwa, and Hon. Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro, following heightened rumours of a possible defection. The stakeholders, according to a communique released after the meeting, agreed to follow the governor to whichever party he decides to pitch his political tent with.
