PDP set to expel Wike
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced disciplinary action against Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.
The party accused him of going against the party’s interest since joining President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet.
Wike, who previously served as the governor of Rivers State and held top positions in the PDP, is now facing accusations of working closely with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), despite still being a member of the opposition party.
His recent activities, including appearances with APC leaders and public remarks that contradict PDP positions, have drawn criticism from party leaders.
On Thursday, July 18, PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, confirmed that a six-member committee has been set up to review petitions against Wike.
The panel is expected to investigate the matter, give Wike a chance to respond, and decide on possible penalties.
These could include suspension or expulsion from the party.
Some PDP leaders said Wike’s acceptance of a role in an APC-led government shows he has abandoned party loyalty.
Rivers PDP acting chairman, Robinson Ewor, and other party leaders have warned that Wike’s actions could cause more internal problems as the party prepares for future elections.
So far, Wike has not spoken publicly about the issue.
However, some of his loyalists in Rivers State said the reaction from the party is too harsh and have called for calm.
Wike still has strong influence in the Niger Delta and among political groups.
If he is removed, it could trigger unrest within the party, especially among his supporters.
This comes at a time when the PDP is trying to stay united and strong ahead of the 2027 elections.
While some members are concerned about the possible fallout, others believe the party must act to protect its identity and enforce internal discipline.
He refused to announce his membership and support for APC because of the state sharing formula. of Rivers State
