The Nigerian Senate has denied reports of any dispute between Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele during a closed-door meeting.
The reaction followed media reports alleging that both lawmakers clashed during a recent executive session held to decide whether the Senate should go on its annual break.
The upper chamber has now come out to debunk those claims.
According to the Senate spokesperson, the reports misrepresented what happened at the meeting.
He explained that the internal discussions held among senators during executive sessions are part of regular legislative activities, which often involve questions, suggestions, and debates on national matters.
He further clarified that the session was used to engage in normal parliamentary dialogue where members freely speak their minds on issues before final decisions are made.
He insisted that such interactions should not be seen as signs of internal crisis.
The Senate added that the leadership remains united and focused on its duty to serve the interests of the Nigerian people.
