WAEC Shuts Result Checker Portal

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has temporarily shut down its online result checker portal, citing technical issues.

Dockaysworld reports that the development comes just days after announcing the release of the 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results.

In a terse statement released Wednesday evening, WAEC attributed the shutdown to “technical issues,” assuring candidates and the general public that its technical team was working to restore access within 24 hours.

The exam body on Monday released what many have described as one of the poorest performances in recent years.

According to WAEC’s official breakdown, out of 1,456,727 candidates who sat for the 2025 WASSCE across Nigeria, only 553,481, representing 38 percent, obtained credit passes in at least five subjects including English Language and Mathematics, which are essential for admission into tertiary institutions.

This marks a significant drop from the 2024 figure of 61 percent.

In addition, the Council disclosed that 1,413,314 candidates had their results fully processed and released, while 43,413 others are still being reviewed due to errors or suspected malpractice cases.
