Former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has backed the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Saturday’s Onitsha North State Constituency by-election, Dockaysworld reports.
Obi was spotted wearing an ADC-branded cap, campaigning for Justina Azuka, the party’s candidate and widow of the late Labour Party lawmaker for the constituency.
Her husband was abducted on December 24, 2024, along Ugwunaobankpa Road in Inland Town, Onitsha, and his body was later found at the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, 2025.
Obi took to social media to praise Azuka’s courage in seeking to complete her late husband’s tenure. He described her as qualified, competent, and committed to public service.
“I call on all well-meaning citizens, at home and beyond, to rally behind her candidacy. Supporting her is not only an investment in competent representation but also a collective act of solidarity that will help ease the pain and heavy burden of her loss,” Obi said.
Obi is part of an opposition coalition uniting under the ADC to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027. The bloc draws members from the Labour Party, People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and other political groups.
