State House of Assembly speaker escapes death
Jigawa State Speaker, Haruna Aliyu Dangyatin, escaped unhurt on Sunday when his convoy was involved in an accident on the way to Maigatari Local Government.
The Speaker was travelling to attend a government-organised political rally called “Gwamnati da Jumaa” when one of the vehicles in the convoy crashed.
The escort van, a black Toyota Hilux carrying police officers, reportedly lost control, somersaulted, and threw the officers out.
Other vehicles, including the one carrying the Speaker, managed to stop a few meters away from the crash site.
The injured policemen were rushed to Gumel General Hospital in an unconscious state.
Medical personnel revived them, and though the vehicle was badly damaged, no lives were lost.
The Speaker’s aide confirmed that the officers were discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment and are now recovering.
